Bears Sign Free Agent Receiver (and Speedster!) Marvin Hall

The Chicago Bears continue to add able-bodied players with speed to their roster:

Wide receiver Marvin Hall is the newest member of the Bears. The 5-foot-10-inch receiver picked up 12 catches, 209 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in 24 games played over the last two years with the Atlanta Falcons. And while those numbers won’t wow Bears fans, perhaps this one might – 4.28.

Hall reportedly was clocked at 4.28 seconds in a hand-timed 40-yard dash at the University of Washington’s Pro Day back in 2016. A 40-yard dash that is timed in the 4.2’s is ludicrous, and that type of speed could come in handy this summer if the Bears throw him into the mix as a return specialist during training camp and in the preseason. Hall came away with ample return-game experience in 2018, returning 26 kicks for 616 yards with the Falcons.

And if he steps foot on the field as a wide receiver, I suppose Mitch Trubisky can channel his inner Matt Ryan, chuck it deep, and hope Hall can run under it:

With teams around the NFL doing their heavy lifting earlier in the week, now is when depth signings start to roll in. Hall represents the latest example of such a signing. But because of his dynamic speed, he’ll stand out as a camp body more than an ordinary receiver. I’m looking forward to seeing how his timed speed translates to the football field once we get to Bourbonnais.
