I am really excited about my friend Meagan’s new food blog. Here’s how highly I think of her cooking: I ate shrimp she made (and I do not eat seafood). Anyway, she made these mini cheesecakes for Fourth of July and they were so good, I asked for the recipe to have for myself. Now, I get to share it with all of you.
Danny Trevathan has the right mindset going into the 2019 NFL season, which could be his final one. “I’m just appreciating each day,” Trevathan said, via Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. “It’s a blessing to be this far. I take nothing for granted. I just work my tail off and try to bring as many people along with me as I can.”
Work hard, bring others with you. Perfect. That’s what leadership looks like!
Trevathan is a tone-setter in the middle of the Bears defense who is a perfect piece to this puzzle. It’s tough to find a player who is a grizzled competitor with Super Bowl experience and still has a ton in the tank during the prime years of his career. Trevathan has that and it shouldn’t be overlooked. Because while we see how he tackles well, can handle his own business in coverage, and even rushes the passer on occasion, there is no metric to account for the leadership he brings to the Bears’ top-notch defense. Working hard and dragging others with him is just the start.
While he’s on our mind, let’s throw it back to some Mic’d Up Danny Trevathan
Kristopher Knox (Bleacher Report) nails it in naming Mitch Trubisky as having the Bears’ most team-friendly contract. It’s an absolute bargain any time you can get a player at the most important position of the game on a rookie-scale deal. That’s what the Bears have with Trubisky, who still has two years (and a likely fifth-year option) on his rookie deal before things get hairy. Eventually, the Bears will need to cross a bridge when it comes to Trubisky’s future with the franchise — but at least they’re not anywhere near approaching said crossroads.
Rory Parks (Pro Football Rumors) re-visits the contracts handed out to the 2018 class of free agent receivers. If you’ll recall, the Bears forked over some serious cash for Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel with the idea of giving Trubisky a worth-while supporting cast. Robinson and Trubisky hit it off early, but didn’t really get to show what they could do until the playoff game against the Eagles. And while Robinson is still in search for another 1,000-yard season, the numbers he put up in his first ever playoff game shows what he could be capable of as he enters the second year in Matt Nagy’s offense.
The time will come when Trubisky’s contract isn’t as team-friendly as it is now, which means the Bears won’t be in a position to invest heavily in free agent receivers. Moving forward, guys like Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, and Riley Ridley will need to step their games up if Chicago’s competitive window is going to stay open for as long as possible.
