The Bears have a new opening on their 90-man preseason roster:
#Bears roster move:
We have placed OL T.J. Clemmings on Injured Reserve.— Chicago Bears (@BearsPR) August 27, 2019
Offensive tackle T.J. Clemmings was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. The announcement was of no surprise, as Clemmings suffered a quadriceps injury last Saturday against the Colts that was expected to cause him to miss the entire season. Placing Clemmings on IR today was merely a formality.
With Clemmings on injured reserve and Rashaad Coward out, that leaves Cornelius Lucas, Tommy Doles, and Marquez Tucker as the only tackles listed on the Bears depth chart who will be available for Thursday’s preseason exhibition against the Titans. Undrafted rookie Alex Bars, who is listed as a guard on the team’s official depth chart, played some snaps at tackle in Chicago’s Week 3 preseason contest. It’s possible the Bears could take an extended look at Bars playing tackle again for further evaluation.
If the Bears don’t like what they see from the guys they have in camp now, it doesn’t take much to imagine the team using some of its cap flexibility to address the need if a veteran tackle becomes available when the waiver period opens up this weekend.
