I Still Can’t Believe I Sat through That Nonsense (And Other Bears Bullets)

bears saints odds

The final trailer for Star Wars Episode IX was the best thing to happen during Monday Night Football’s Jets-Patriots game.

So let’s watch it again:

In the 2:37 you took to watch this trailer, Sam Darnold threw another interception to a Patriots defender.

  • So … Tom Brady, eh?
  • Of all the things I heard on my walk out of Soldier Field on my way home was a Saints fan saying “that’s for sticking us with Ditka!” still resonates. Those Mike Ditka years in New Orleans were tough. The game had passed Ditka by and left him in the dust, which ultimately led him to green-light the franchise-altering move to trade all of the Saints’ draft picks to select Ricky Williams. Not that those picks ever became Hall of Famers, but trading an entire draft class for one guy just doesn’t seem like an ideal way to start piecing together a rebuilding team. But surely, Saints fans should have been over that by now … right?
  • The other thing that stuck with me was the Soldier Field experience. Primarily, the thought that a stadium that was remodeled in 2002-03 already feels out-dated. Between the seats, the space, the bathrooms, and the accessibility (thank goodness I didn’t drive or pay for parking) there is a lot left to be desired when it comes to the home of the Bears. The sight-lines are fine (there isn’t a better seat than being in the sky behind the end zone, IMO) and the columns on the exterior provide a fair amount of nostalgia. But everything else? Yikes. The Bears completed the modernization of Halas Hall this year and players/coaches have raved about it. Isn’t it about time the Bears get with the times and upgrade their den?
  • When the Jets were down 24-0 to the Patriots, they still found a way to try and stay committed to the run. I was watching the game with my buddy Bryan when we looked at each other and made note that the Bears would never do such a thing.
  • And to show we’re not crazy, here is the proof:
  • Mitch Trubisky is not a drop-back quarterback who is going to sling his way to a Bears victory. He simply isn’t that guy. And yet, that is a ton of passing in one-score games where it isn’t necessary. After Week 1, Matt Nagy hinted at Trubisky choosing to throw out of run-pass option plays. If that is the case, perhaps Nagy needs to take the pass option out of the equation if he wants to truly commit to establishing a ground game.

  • An idea: Get the ball to Patterson more often by way of tosses and jet sweeps. Getting playmakers with speed the ball in space could bring life to a listless running game.
  • Lamar Jackson, a quarterback, is out-rushing the Bears:
  • At least Taylor Gabriel is cool enough to apologize to his fantasy owners:
  • Maybe all the Bears need is a new look to break out of their slump:
  • Look good. Feel good. Play good? Chicago was 1-0 in home games in which it wore the orange uniform tops last year. All I’m saying is give them a chance.
