With Mitchell Trubisky’s shoulder injury expected to keep him out of action, the Chicago Bears found themselves scraping the barrel in search of quarterback help.
Here’s what they were able to scrounge up:
With Mitch Trubisky expected to miss time, per @MikeGarafolo, the #Bears are bringing in QBs Jake Rudock and Kyle Sloter for a workout, per the transaction wire.

This is Kyle Sloter’s second invite for a tryout, so the Bears should know what they’re getting into when he shows up at Halas Hall.
Sloter, 26, has waves of preseason and practice squad experience under his belt. The well-traveled preseason standout has been with the Broncos (2017), Vikings (2017-18), Cardinals (2019), and Lions (2019). And yet, he has never taken a regular-season snap. But considering his experience with the Vikings and Lions, maybe he can share some rivals’ secrets. Or maybe he can divulge some information as to how Kliff Kingsbury runs the Cardinals’ offense. That looks like fun!
Jake Rudock, on the other hand, is a new name in Bears circles. Big Ten football fans probably know Rudock from his time at Iowa and Michigan. After Rudock’s college career finished, the Lions used a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to bring him aboard. Rudock, now 27, was the Lions’ third-string quarterback behind Matthew Stafford and Dan Orlovsky as a rookie. However, he didn’t play until 2017 when he completed 3 of 5 passes for 24 yards, an interception, and a 32.5 passer rating in a Week 13 game against the Ravens.
Hey, I didn’t say any of these names were going to jump off the page at you!
A banged-up offensive line, non-mobile starting quarterback, and an injured backup have Tyler Bray being one snap away from being in command of Chicago’s offense. So, yeah, it was time to bring in some potential reinforcements for the QB3 spot. Even if the names aren’t the most impressive.
