Shortly after drafting Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon with the 39th pick, the Ryan Poles administration is adding added another defensive back to secondary with the 48th pick.
This time it’s safety Jaquan Brisker out of Penn State:

All that talk about the Bears trading down and wanting to collect picks resulted in the Bears standing pat *AND* drafting two defensive players.
Huh?
Can’t say I saw this coming.
But I also can’t say this is an awful selection. It’s not as if the Bears’ secondary didn’t need help. And, purely from a prospect value perspective, Chicago appears to have landed a second Week 1 starter in its secondary. That’s not all bad in the grand scheme of things.
Brisker was a second-team All-American selection, putting him in elite company when it comes to college football’s fines. Additionally, Brisker an All-Big Ten selection in each of the past two seasons. And with good reason:
The Bears still have one more pick today. It’s No. 71 overall and in the third round. Chicago also has three Day 3 selections coming its way. Maybe some help on the offensive side of the ball is still to come. We’ll see…
