It has been a rough year for the Cleveland Browns. Mostly self-inflicted.
Sure, these are statements I could write every season, but this year is on another level. Between the Deshaun Watson stuff, the Baker Mayfield situation, and a Sunday loss to the New York Jets, it feels like there is always something happening with the Browns. And rarely (if ever) is it a good thing.
However, the latest incident is straight-up absurd. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero has the scoop:
Pelissero reports the team has plans on banning a fan from First Energy Stadium for throwing a water bottle that hit team owner Jimmy Haslem on Sunday. Because it’s not like Cleveland fans don’t have enough issues on their plate as it is. Video of the incident has been given to local law enforcement authorities. Good luck dealing with that ridiculousness.
And to think, this isn’t the only incident the NFL is dealing with in terms of fans crossing lines. Pro Football Focus’ Ari Meirov tweeted video of an interaction featuring Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and fans after their win against the Las Vegas Raiders:
Fan and player safety is supposed to be a top priority for the league. And I imagine the NFL will re-double its efforts after a pair of unsavory incidents from over the weekend.
