The NFL Trade Deadline is 37 days away, but at least one NFL insider expects the team to have eyes on wide receivers before it passes.
Ahead of Sunday’s Bears-Texans game, NFL on CBS lead insider Jonathan Jones threaded the needle and squeezed in this anecdote before the game:
“Expect the Bears to be active in the receiver market in a few weeks before the trade deadline.”
It was a brief mention, but an important one from Jones on CBS’ pre-game show. In that particular segment above, Jones had been relaying messaging, context, and perspective about the Bears’ offensive plans with Justin Fields throwing the ball more (starting this week against the Texans). With that in mind, I found it interesting that Jones was dropping that nugget about Chicago’s trade deadline plans. However vague and short the mention was, it is still noteworthy. The Bears still have long-term receiver needs, but also could use a pick-me-up in the short term. And while I struggle to find possible big-name receiver fits right now, finding a short-term alternative could be in the works.
We’ll keep an eye on the trade market as it approaches.
