The final injury report of the week is OUT, leaving us playing the waiting game on a trio of key Bears.
Offensive linemen Teven Jenkins and Cody Whitehair are listed as doubtful to play Saturday against the Bills. So is wide receiver Chase Claypool. Jenkins had that awful-looking neck injury that had him as a limited particiapnt in practice earlier in the week, but out of practice since. Claypool has been dealing with a knee issue since the Packers game. And while he was limited at one point earlier in the week, he was downgraded to not practicing on Thursday. As for Whitehair, he didn’t practice all week due to a knee injury.
Here is the injury report in full:
Generally speaking, players with the doubtul designation on the last injury report almost always land on the game day inactive list. And I imagine that will be the case with Whitehair, Claypool, and Jenkins. If that is how the cookie crumbles, then that trio will join receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (concussion), cornerback Kindle Vildor (ankle), and tight end Trevon Wesco (calf) as being out for Saturday’s game.
The other notable name we’ll need to keep tabs on here is Jaylon Johnson, who was a full participant on Tuesday and Wednesday before getting a downgrade to “limited” on Thursday. Based on Johnson’s recent history, my gut says he’ll try to gut it out as best he can. Johnson did something similar while playing through an injury earlier in the year. While his effort was admirable, there were moments where it was clear he was swimming upstream battling the injury. Should history repeat itself, I hope Bears coaches keep a close eye on their top corner.
