Look … I don’t know why Northwestern is holding its Pro Day on the second day of the free agent negotiation period. But it is. And the Chicago Bears are well represented in Evanston.
And one player they have eyes on is offensive tackle prospect Peter Skoronski…
With good reason, I might add.
Skoronski is one of the top-rated offensive linemen available in this class. In fact, one could make a strong case for Skoronski being the best of the bunch. And he very well could be the first offensive lineman taken in the 2023 NFL Draft. Skoronski checks some Bears boxes. The unanimous All-American has a strong résumé, skills, and tape that shows productivity against upper-echelon college foes. Maybe he doesn’t have particular measures from the Combine that make draft nerds drool, but his play at the collegiate level has been strong. This gives us reason to believe it could make the jump to the next level.
With the Bears moving back in the draft after trading the first pick, taking Skoronski is more realistic now than it was a week ago.
Expect to hear Skoronski’s name in connection with the Bears between now and when they go on the clock with the No. 9 pick in April. So long as Chicago’s football team has needs on the offensive line, Skoronski will be a player who pops up in conversation. And depending on how the Bears attack the rest of the offseason, it is possible Skoronski could be a fit at guard or tackle. Whatever his future holds, the Bears are getting a good look at Skoronski. Ultimately, it will help inform them on if they want Skoronski as part of that future.
