Seeing Kansas City on the Bears’ schedule had me dreaming about BBQ and a trip to the Negro League Museum.
Because if I could squeeze in a trip to see Justin Fields take on Patrick Mahomes while also indulging in way too much of the world’s most famous barbecue and get a chance to learn more about the Negro Leagues (something with which I was fascinated as a youngster), I wanted to do it. Knocking out multiple things off the checklist is what the best road trips are made of when you plan them out.
But I guess that will have to wait until next go around, as Chicago media personality David Kaplan reports the Bears and Chiefs will travel overseas to face each other in Germany:
“I have learned the Bears and Chiefs are expected to play in Germany next season. So the Bears and Justin Fields get Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champs. Again, they’re expected to play next fall in Germany.”
When the NFL announced host teams and sites for international games in 2023, the Chiefs stood out to me. Not necessarily because they were about to go on a playoff run that would end with winning the Super Bowl. Instead, it was more about the Chiefs being on the Bears’ schedule of opponents in 2023. It made sense that the NFL would want to put a rising star like Fields on an international stage. And as an added bonus, he gets to go toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes. What an honor. It’s not like I didn’t see this coming. I even said as much back in January. And now, it appears that Kaplan is the latest to report a Bears-Chiefs excursion to play football in Germany. Remember, there was buzz in February that this would happen.
Once it becomes officially official, the Bears’ road schedule might be the most unique in the league going into 2023. Trips to Germany, Los Angeles, and New Orleans could be fun destination trips for Bears fans. When the schedule comes out in May, I’ll hash out any potential travel plans that seem worthwhile. Who’s with me?
