There was chatter surrounding the Chicago Bears taking a Texas running back in the 2023 NFL Draft.
And even though Bijan Robinson went one pick ahead of where they were originally slated to make a selection, the Bears ultimately got around to hookin’ a Longhorns standout.
Running back Roschon Johnson is on his way to Chicago (by way of a pick made in London):
Johnson, 22, joins a crowded Bears running backs room. A group that already had Khalil Herbert at the top of the depth chart has since added two free agents (D’Onta Foreman, Travis Homer) and now a fourth-round draft pick. Returning down-the-depth-chart running option Trestan Ebner appears to have his work cut out for him this summer. But we can sort through that stuff later. For now, we’ve got a new Bears draft pick to look into to start our draft coverage.
Johnson was giving off Miles Sanders at Penn State vibes as I was going through the pre-draft process and digging into running backs. Because just like Sanders was the understudy behind Saquon Barkley at PSU, Johnson was the man behind The Man at UT. Going into Day 3, my hope was for the Bears to land a running back who could contribute in the passing game and possibly as a returner. Johnson appears to check those boxes. And as the NFL Network broadcast pointed out, Roschon has some previous quarterbacking experience. This already has me on high alert for some trickeration at some point in the near future.
More on the Bears’ latest pick soon…
