Hampton Days, Naperville Talk, Solder Field Swifts, Manifesting Excellence, Joint Practices, and Other Bears Bullets

Here’s my Taylor Swift concert review: If the Bears can leave Soldier Field in Week 1 with the same kind of joy I felt walking out of that building last night after Taylor Swift’s show, then I’d say Chicago’s football team will be in store for a wonderful season.

That’s it. That’s all that needs to be said about that show because that’s how good it was last night. It was so good that it has me pushing out positive Bears energy. So while I’m still riding that high, let’s keep the good vibes flowing with this set of Bullets.

  • Our 2023 countdown to Week 1 has reached double digits:
  • Dan Hampton is definitely the best No. 99 in Bears history. The Hall of Famer was a four-time Pro Bowler who snagged first-team All-Pro honors in 1984. A member of the All-1980s team, Hampton was a force who changed how we look at defensive line play. If you were drafting ex-Bears who you could take from their prime to plop onto this year’s team, Hampton would probably be a top-3 pick. Imagine having him playing that game-wrecking 3-technique role. Giggity.
  • There I was yesterday thinking about it would be a nice easy Friday until the Bears dropped this nugget from the sky:
  • The Bears publicly stating that they’ve got eyes on other property just in case things fall through in Arlington Heights isn’t something I saw coming. This isn’t to say I thought it would be a smooth ride. There was always going to be public posturing. We’re talking about the Bears (who have never negotiated anything with any kind of ease) and Illinois politics (which is always a circus). But to do the public negotiation play at this stage of the process felt early to me. Then again, maybe I should have seen this coming because never have the Bears made anything easy on us. At least, not for as long as I’ve been alive.
  • More reporting on stadium watch from the Tribune, Sun-Times, and The Athletic.
  • This feels like a good time to share that the Minnesota Vikings are going to be able to pay off their debt for US Bank Stadium 23 years earlier than expected. Oh, if we could all be that lucky. (Front Office Sports)
  • This a reminder that Bears President Kevin Warren had a hand in the Vikings building US Bank Stadium. Warren was an executive with the Vikings with the titles Executive VP of Legal Affairs & Chief Administrative Officer (2005-14) and Chief Operating Officer (2015-19).
  • Because I like finding the silver lining in all situations, maybe this situation will bring new life to what I have in the Succession Memes folder. I’ve gotta find some use for that stuff.
  • Maybe we can just keep the Chicago Bears in Chicago? Just a thought. But it might be crazy enough to work.
  • OK, but in all honesty, that ship has sailed. The Bears might be posturing by using Naperville as leverage. However, that they’re publicly exploring that and not using a return to Soldier Field as leverage is a sure sign that they’re serious about leaving for the suburbs. Whatevs. Leaving the city for Naperville is so cliché.
  • It was head-turning to see the Eagles announce they were having joint practices with the Colts this summer, if only because there had been reports the Bears were doing so but nothing was officially official. But old friend JJ Stankevitz shares that the Colts are also hosting the Bears for joint sessions. Whew.
  • Trestan Ebner, Patrick Scales, and Dominique Robinson have great taste in Taylor Swift songs:
  • Did you see Justin Fields in the clip above? Our favorite QB vibes with T-Swift. And that’s good, too, since he is about to enter his 1989 era:
  • This tweet made me laugh out loud:
  • Some positive injury updates in Cubs camp:
  • This will be a fascinating situation to watch:
  • I’m not sure if the Bulls really like Vooch or if they’re exploring an extension because the franchise feels it needs to justify trading for him. It’s a slippery slope and I hope they make the right decision.
