Brian Hoyer, who once strung together four consecutive games with 300+ passing yards and 0 interceptions with the Bears in 2016, looked absolutely cooked. Meanwhile, the Bears played an old-school kind of game en route to their second win of the 2023 season. I can’t say I saw this coming.
FINAL: Chicago Bears 30, Las Vegas Raiders 12 (ESPN Box Score)
Four thoughts on a Bears win
Bears Highlights
Foreman’s numbers: 16 carries, 89 rushing yards, 2 TDs; 3 catches, 31 receiving yards, 1 TD. Add it all up and it comes out to 19 touches, 120 scrimmage yards, and 3 scores. We can dice up so many of Ryan Poles’ decisions as general manager. But signing Foreman is turning out to be a thrifty find for Chicago’s GM. Why was he inactive in Weeks 2, 3, 4, and 5?
After coming up with just one interception in his first 43 games as a pro, Jaylon Johnson snagged two on Sunday against the Raiders. And he did it against two different quarterbacks. I was waiting to see who else Vegas would trot out there to throw up punts for Johnson to intercept. Was JaMarcus Russell busy? What about Jeff Hostetler? Where is Jeff George when you need him?
Three Bears
Tyson Bagent went 21-for-29 as a passer, throwing for 162 yards, and his first-ever touchdown. He was sacked just once and the offensive line allowed just three quarterback hits. That group kept Maxx Crosby in check. As a result, Bagent was able to make quick decisions and accurate throws to lead the Bears to their first home win at Soldier Field since Week 3 of the 2022 season. Well done, rookie!
Jaylon Johnson did this:
Johnson also garnered a couple of flags on some penalties while in coverage. However, I’m convinced those would’ve been no-calls had he not been wearing orange sleeves. They weren’t a muted orange either. Jaylon was out here wearing a bright-as-a-construction-cone type of orange. Anecdotally, you’ve gotta believe it is easier to avoid penalties when you’re not wearing orange sleeves that attract all eyes to you.
Cairo Santos made all three PATs and drilled on from 54 yards out. Another productive day at the office for Chicago’s most consistent offensive weapon.
