I hope D’Onta Foreman has space in his trophy room because he is bringing home some hardware.
Just one day after earning the Angry Runs scepter for his bulldozing attack against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, Chicago Bears running back D’Onta Foreman is the NFL’s FedEx Ground Player of the Week. It isn’t a fancy leg lamp like what the guy got in A Christmas Story. But it still counts as a major award:
It was a solid day for Foreman, who picked up 89 rushing yards on 16 carries. For those of you who don’t have a calculator on hand, that comes out to 5.6 yards per carry. And if you were to extrapolate that average over a full 17-game season, it would come out to 1,513 rushing yards. In other words, Foreman was balling when he was getting those hand-offs from Tyson Bagent.
Foreman added two rushes for touchdowns. Plus, scored a third time while catching Tyson Bagent’s first touchdown pass as a pro. It was his second three-touchdown game in as many seasons. Some guys don’t get one. Foreman has two in the last calendar year or so. Good for him. Glad to see the Bears were the beneficiaries of his most recent efforts. For good measure, Foreman also chipped in with 31 receiving yards, bringing his all-purpose yardage to 120. But this is a “Ground Player of the Week” award and not an “All-Purpose Player of the Week” award. Whatever. Let’s enjoy some D’Onta Foreman highlights from last week:
Ah, yes. That is some good stuff.
What’s next for D’Onta Foreman?
D’Onta Foreman runs powerfully in a north-and-south fashion. He is tough to tackle and is often looking to dish out a hit before he can take one. All in all, I find it visually appealing watching Foreman run. The guy has a nose for gaining yards and a flair for the dramatic. Maybe he should cool it on the hurdling attempts. But on the other hand, maybe he just needs to work harder at it, perfect it, and then clear would-be tacklers in a single bound.
I’m looking forward to seeing what D’Onta Foreman does for an encore in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Sure, it looks like rookie running back Roschon Johnson will join Foreman in the rotation. But given that this will be Johnson’s first football action since leaving concussion protocol, there might be limitations to how much he plays. This gives Foreman an opportunity to get a bulk of the carries on Sunday and put on a show in primetime while in the shadow of Hollywood. Do it, D’Onta! Give us something not even the best NFL script-writers could draw up.
