Cook Out 400 Odds and Picks
The Cook Out 400 from Martinsville Speedway is the eighth race on the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule and the second consecutive at a short track. If it’s anything like last week’s Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond Raceway, the legit contenders will become apparent fairly quickly. Below are the post-qualifying Cook Out 400 odds and a couple of my favorite bets for the race.
Cook Out 400 Odds
Kyle Larson has surpassed Denny Hamlin as the race favorite after snagging the pole position from Bubba Wallace by one-thousandth of a second. Denny Hamlin was the only car equal to Larson’s during practice and is looking for back-to-back victories after his controversial win last week. Get ready for a race that promises to be a white-knuckled battle from start to finish with the Cook Out 400 odds.

Cook Out 400 Picks
Bubba Wallace to win +2800 (Caesars)
Bubba was top 3 in 5, 10, 15, and 20-lap averages in practice with subpar 4th and 6th best splits in 25 and 30-laps. I’ll acknowledge that his falloff wasn’t nearly as good as the guys in front of him but as we saw last week, a short run may decide the race. After practice, Wallace went out and missed the pole by just one-thousandth of a second to Kyle Larson.
Wallace wasn’t considered a potential race winner last week at Richmond either. But he qualified 5th and was easily a top 5 car until his late-race incident with Kyle Larson of all people, haha. He probably won’t win, but 28-1 is far too long for as good as he’s been this season. Especially considering he’s been pretty good, finishing between 8th and 11th in the last three races here at Martinsville.
Alex Bowman Top 10 +110 (BetRivers)
Bowman the showman hasn’t finished inside the top 10 here since winning the Fall 2021 race. But he was 12th and 11th in the two most recent Spring races. Add that to the fact this is his best starting position at Martinsville since 2020 when he began both races inside the top 10 and finished both of those in 6th. Bowman was also a surefire top 10 car last week in Richmond before a questionable call pinned him a lap down and cost him dearly. It’s Hendrick Motorsports’ 40th Anniversary this weekend so expect strong runs from their four drivers including Bowman.
Chase Briscoe +100 Over Chase Elliott (Caesars)
There is definitely some Hendrick Motorsports 40th Anniversary and most popular driver influence built into these odds. But the removal of those factors likely flips this number, and pretty significantly at that. Briscoe was the fastest car in 20-lap average during practice and all of his splits were faster than Elliott’s during the session. Briscoe has also won the battle of Chase’s in all four next-gen Martinsville races. I expect Elliott to have a good race, just not as good as Briscoe’s. Simply put, this shouldn’t be even money.
