Lost in the shuffle of Kyle Davidson’s first few days as the permanent GM of the Chicago Blackhawks was this nugget of information from TSN’s Elliotte Friedman in his Wednesday ‘32 Thoughts’ column: “The Blackhawks have been asked about Kane, I can’t imagine anything happening before the summer – assuming anything happens at all.”
That line was buried inside the rest of Friedman’s thoughts on the Blackhawks and their new GM. I guess it’s not surprising to hear that teams would be inquiring on the superstar winger with the Blackhawks heading into a full-blown rebuild (even if he does want to stay in Chicago long-term), but this is where it gets a little extra spicy.
(Sorry in advance for the caps, but they're necessary)
THE AVS INQUIRED ABOUT PATRICK KANE!! WHAT?!?!@TheFourthPeriod | #NHLNow pic.twitter.com/tjLDABR3CM

The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta was on NHL Network last night and dropped this nuke of a nugget on us all regarding a potential suitor for Patrick Kane: “They’re [Colorado] one of the teams that have reached out to Chicago and said, ‘hey, if you’re in a position and [Patrick] Kane is looking to move, give us a call; we want to make that happen.”
According to Pagnotta, the Colorado Avalanche have contacted the Blackhawks to let them know that if they’re looking to move Patrick Kane or Kane himself wants to chase another Stanley Cup, they would like to land the future Hall of Famer’s services.
The idea of the Avalanche giving the Blackhawks a shout to say, “Hey, we want in on that if that’s the direction you take,” seems pretty normal. It’s just jarring to hear Patrick Kane’s name involved in any sort of trade rumors. Thankfully for Blackhawks fans, Kane made it abundantly clear this week that he would be “honored and privileged” to finish his career in Chicago with the Blackhawks.
“I think there’s always business decisions. … There’s not many guys that play their whole career with one team. So it would be a privilege and an honor to do that. But I guess we’ll see how it all plays out.”—Patrick Kane on staying with the Blackhawks through a rebuild pic.twitter.com/raCNTRbaIe

And by all indications, the Blackhawks won’t trade Kane, unless he asks for it. So I guess we’ll see. Stay tuned. A very busy trade deadline is approaching.
