Remembering 9/11, Prospect Talk, Funny Darling, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

First of all, Bear Down. It’s an NFL Sunday with hockey coming this week, so let’s jump into our bullets.

  • Though football fans will turn their attention to the gridiron today for the first weekend of the NFL season, we’re also mindful of the date on the calendar. It’s Sept. 11, which evokes strong memories and emotions for those of us who were old enough to recognize what was happening 21 years ago. And, more importantly, those who lost someone or knew someone who lost their life on that day or as a result of the following efforts to recover survivors will spend time remembering today.
  • The New York Rangers paid special tribute at their first game at Madison Square Garden that season, and remembered that evening today.
  • Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times dropped his top 20 prospect rankings for the Blackhawks this weekend. How do his rankings differ from ours? We broke it down on Sunday morning.
  • 2015 Blackhawks champion netminder Scott Darling is a funny guy. No, really, he really is funny. And he’s making a go of it as a stand-up comedian now that his playing days are over.
  • John Dietz has thoughts about Kirby Dach. And so do I. After a long week of reading the Dach reclamation/breakout/surprise/Habs won the trade columns from Canada, I sarcastically asked for more on Twitter and Dietz offered a prediction for the former Blackhawks’ forward.

  • As I replied to Dietz, if those numbers had been Dach’s faceoff win percentage in his three years in Chicago maybe we’re having a different conversation about his future…
  • We’re still waiting to learn which prospects will be on the ice for the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase this week against the Minnesota Wild. I can confirm that a number of this year’s draft picks will not be there; they’re already on college campuses or at their juniors camps. So we’re actually fascinated to see what the roster/lineup will be this week.
  • Finally, make sure you’re following our Bears coverage as we start a new season.
