The Seattle Thunderbirds and Prince Albert Raiders announced a trade on Wednesday that is fascinating for Blackhawks fans.
Defenseman Nolan Allan has been traded from Prince Albert to Seattle in a fairly significant deal in the WHL.
NOTE: this has nothing to do with the Chicago Blackhawks or Rockford IceHogs roster or the player’s rights.
Allan, 19, was the Blackhawks’ first-round pick (No. 32) in the 2021 NHL Draft — the last draft run by Stan Bowman’s regime in Chicago. To date, Allan has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 16 games. Eight of his 11 points (two goals, six assists) have come on the power play this season.
Why do we care? Allan, a left-handed shot who is listed at 6-2 and 193 pounds, will now be a teammate of Kevin Korchinski. Korchinski, of course, was the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft — the first draft managed by Kyle Davidson’s group.
The Blackhawks will now be able to keep an eye on two of their blue line prospects in one spot. And, interestingly, they might be able to see how they play together. Both players have already signed their entry-level contracts with Chicago (which, again, retain their rights — this has nothing to do with their NHL draft status).
