Blackhawks Acquire Forward Anders Bjork From Buffalo

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward Anders Bjork from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for our favorite asset this year: future considerations. Bjork will report to Chicago on Friday.

Bjork, 26, is in the final season of a three-year contract with a $1.6 million cap hit; he’ll be a restricted free agent this summer ($1.8 million qualifying offer) with one more year until UFA status. Bjork has 25 points in 42 games with Rochester in the AHL this year; he has appeared in just one NHL game this season

Originally a fifth-round pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Draft, Bjork has scored 24 goals with 29 assists in 212 NHL regular-season games between Boston and Buffalo. He’s a left wing listed at 6-0 and 196 pounds.

Bjork played three seasons at Notre Dame between the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons, during which he was teammates with Blackhawks prospects Vinnie Hinostroza and Dennis Gilbert.

Bjork would have played under Kevin Dean in Providence and/ or Boston where he had some good moments but was always searching for consistency.
