A Blackhawks Fans’ Guide to the NCAA Quarterfinal Weekend

The Blackhawks started the 16-team NCAA bracket with seven prospects on six rosters. On Thursday, three of the four prospects in action advanced. The defending national champions from Denver, including Blackhawks prospect Aidan Thompson, were upset by Cornell. Offensively, Ryan Greene had an assist in Boston University’s win. And Dominic Basse served as St. Cloud State’s backup netminder in their victory.

Friday’s games kicked off with a bang. Ohio State hammered Harvard 8-1 and Blackhawks center prospect Jake Wise had assists on four of the Buckeyes’ goals. If Ohio State puts up eight, what is Michigan going to do? How about an 11-1 win over Colgate! Frank Nazar had one goal and one assist in the blowout win. Quinnipac shut out Slava Demin and Merrimack 5-0.

Chicago still has Nazar (Michigan), Drew Commesso and Greene (Boston University), Basse (St. Cloud State) and Wise (Ohio State) alive in the field.

So when can we watch the Blackhawks’ remaining prospects play for a berth in the Frozen Four in Tampa?

Saturday

  • Boston University vs. Cornell — 3:00 PM CT (ESPNU)
  • St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota — 5:30 PM CT (ESPNU)
  • Sunday

  • Ohio State vs Quinnipac — 3:00 PM CT (ESPNU)
  • Michigan vs Penn State — 5:30 PM CT (ESPNU)
  • The national semifinal games will be played on Thursday, April 6 and the championship game is on Saturday, April 8. The Frozen Four is being played in Tampa this year.
