On Wednesday the Blackhawks announced the team has signed forward Brett Seney to a one-year, two-way extension. The contract has a $775,000 cap hit in the NHL.
In 50 games with the Rockford IceHogs this season, Seney is tied for second in assists (29) and third on the team with 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists). He has appeared in seven NHL games with the Blackhawks this season, scoring once.
Seney, 27, signed a two-way deal with the Blackhawks last summer to provide depth and veteran leadership in the AHL and he’s done a great job of being precisely that. Bringing him back will give the organization some continuity in the system as young prospects like Colton Dach and Antti Saarela join the professional ranks. Saarela signed on Tuesday and Dach will make the move to the AHL next year.
