Connor Bedard‘s first game in Canada figures to be a big one with a lot of cameras and eyeballs on the No. 1 overall pick from this past summer’s draft. Montreal figures to have the No. 1 overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft, forward Juraj Slafkovsky, in their lineup as well. His career hasn’t started as well as Bedard’s but I’m sure he’ll want to perform well with Chicago’s top pick getting more of the attention.
This will also be the first time Kirby Dach faces the organization that drafted him this season. He had some interesting comments this past summer about his emotions coming back to Chicago last year and winning the game in the shootout (after which he motioned to the crowd that greeted him with boos). We’ll see if he’s out for revenge again this time on the ice.
Tonight will also be the first Bedard game on NBC Sports Chicago. I wish Chris Vosters and Darren Pang the best of puck with the pronunciation guide as they handle last names like Xhekaj, Kovacevic, Slafkovsky and Ylonen.
