Unfortunately, as we’ve seen since the Blackhawks got back on the ice after Christmas, this Chicago roster is missing so many bodies that it’s an uphill climb every night to win a game. The Blackhawks need to be flawless. New Jersey’s defense/goaltending has left a lot to be desired this season, and they like to play fast so this game could have a different look that last night against the Rangers. Let’s see if Bedard has anything special in his bag of tricks for the Hughes brothers.

Anthony Beauvillier (wrist), Tyler Johnson (foot), Taylor Raddysh (groin), Joey Anderson (left shoulder), Seth Jones (shoulder), Taylor Hall, and (still) Andreas Athanasiou (groin) are all on IR.

New Jersey Devils

Timo Meier and Ondrej Palat are banged up. Dougie Hamilton, Nolan Foote and Tomas Nosek are on IR.

What to Watch For

This will be Bedard’s first game against former No. 1 overall picks Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, both of whom were out hurt when the Devils were at the United Center.

It appears Venecek is getting the start in goal. He has a 3.35 goals against average and a mediocre (at best) .883 save percentage. The Blackhawks will have a great chance to score goals tonight. In fact, the Devils are a team I would think would have interest in Petr Mrazek if he becomes available before the trade deadline.

When these two teams plays in November, Dougie Hamilton was a beast. He skated 21:56 with one assist, four shots on goal, two more shot attempts, two blocked shots and one hit. He’s on IR now, and it shows; the Devils’ struggle defensively.
