HAPPY HANUKKAH AND CHRISTMAS EVE EVE!
Let’s celebrate with some bullets!
A perfect representation of the dichotomy that exists between Bulls fans here in 2019:
To be clear, I don’t think either side is wrong here. The Bulls have gotten lucky by picking up wins against some beaten-up opponents. However, that doesn’t mean those wins should be completely pushed aside. Not only have some players leaped over individual hurdles during those games, but winning against those groups is exactly what a competent team is supposed to do. A person can’t be furious when the Bulls lose to a below .500 team AND completely undermine things when the Bulls beat a below .500 team. If a fan wants the Bulls to tank and lose games, that’s one thing. If a fan wants wins, then a win is a win.
On the other end of this is the Bulls fan who immediately jumps to the organizational impact. Unfortunately, this is a rather valid response. In this case, yes, the Bulls should have built better at the wing this season, and that was obvious to basically everyone other than the Bulls front office, apparently. At the end of the day, there is always something to find; although, that doesn’t mean any achievements from the players can’t be recognized. Ugh, the morale of the story, it’s so freaking hard to be a Bulls fan.
Anyway, the players are well aware of how some of their recent wins have been perceived. The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry wrote about locker room chatter after Saturday night’s victory and where the Bulls currently stand.
Kris Dunn ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog.
If you’re not buying into anything these Bulls players have done (and I’m not sure I am), at least be excited about Kris Dunn!
I can tell some people are almost out of the Coby White honeymoon phase. Sure, we all love to see the rookie have a hot night, but his inconsistency is clearly starting to get on our nerves. Before Saturday’s 19-point performance, White scored a combined 10 points over four games and shot just 15 percent from the field. Ouch. Fortunately, I came into the season with expectations of growing pains for the 19-year-old, so I still have heart-eyes for the guy. All one can really ask for from such a young, promising NBA newbie is to keep confidence, and according to the K.C. Johnson’s latest piece for NBC Sports Chicago, White’s doing just that.
WOAH … Bleacher Report has the Bulls at No. 17 in their power rankings this week. For the most part, I’ve noticed B/R has listed the Bulls higher than other sites, but they jumped Chicago from No. 21 to 17 after just this week. The explanation: “No game’s ever really over if the Bulls are involved.” For or against the Bulls, that’s a good way to put it.
LaVine’s on another one of his hot streaks, averaging 31.8 points per game over his last four performances. Sam Smith tried to answer the question: Should LaVine be an All-Star? Right now, he’s heading to a similar issue as last season, the Bulls just don’t have enough wins. If he continues to bump up his season averages and shoot 40 percent from behind the arc though, he’ll have a case, especially with the event in Chicago this season. He’s certainly shown more signs of becoming a legitimate winning player, so we’ll see if that can work in his favor.
I’ve said it 1000 times, and I’ll say it again: Daniel Gafford was a steal.
