Small-Ball Practice, How Would You Rank the LaVine-Markkanen Duo? Jordan’s Nicest Game, and Other Bulls Bullets

Sometimes I stress about wanting to use the Bullets intro to make my life sound interesting, but the nice thing about everyone being stuck in quarantine is that I have a real excuse for not being interesting!

Anyway, enjoy your weekend … even though everyday kind of feels like the weekend.

  • No toddler-size basketball hoop is safe from the wrath of THE FINNISHER!

  • Lauri Markkanen blessed our social media feed with a video of him nailing 10-straight buckets while doing some sit-ups, and I think it’s safe to say, The Finnisher is officially BACK … just kidding … maybe? Perhaps the Bulls should-be-star-player is going back to the basics, like extreme basics, to get back to his old self. Hey, whatever helps the big man stay in shape and keep his basketball skills active works for me! Don’t you kind of want to see him do this on an actual court now though?
  • This is a brief side tangent (and maybe kind of stupid), but I’ve always wondered whether shooting on any kind of small rim is significantly easier for NBA players? For example, could NBA players just dominate that mini-basketball game at every arcade? I know most of these guys have great depth perception, but I feel like the change in scale/weight/feel would be a bit challenging. It’s all muscle memory after all, right? That said, Markkanen did just nail every one of those shots with different-sized basketballs, so maybe it doesn’t matter. I don’t know, what NBA player wants to challenge me to some mini-basketball so we can figure this out? Also, no using your superior wingspan to reach over the beam and drop it in the hoop, that’s cheating.
  • Bleacher Report ranked every NBA team’s “dynamic duo” this season, and not-so-spoiler-alert, the Zach LaVine-Lauri Markkanen duo didn’t get a whole lot of respect. The pair ranked 28th in the league, and I know injuries derailed some of the seasons, but these two still played plenty of minutes together over the first several months. While I haven’t completely given up on them co-existing, the future isn’t very bright without any significant changes. I think Bulls ownership realized that hanging the future of the franchise on this dynamic duo isn’t going to cut it moving forward. And the fact that this front office put all their eggs in that basket, to begin with, is why change MUST be on the horizon. LaVine and Markkanen are starters in this league, but these two can’t carry a franchise. Simple as that.
  • The BIG3 is bringing us some quarantined basketball! We already talked about the premise of the show in the past, but now Yahoo Sports is reporting that BIG3 owner Ice Cube has partnered with the producers of the reality show “Big Brother” to officially make it happen! GIVE ME THIS CONTENT.
  • Okay, now we enter the part of bullets were I just share a bunch of nostalgic stuff because why not!
  • Jordan had a ridiculously NICE game on this day in 1990.
  • Then, five years later, Jordan dropped 55 points at Madison Square Garden. Even better, this was only his 5th game out of his first retirement, so he quickly reminded us all that the NBA was his sandbox … and everyone else was just playing in it.
  • Nothing to see here. Move along.
  • HBD to the OG!
