The Chicago Bulls inked big man Adama Sanogo to a two-way contract following the conclusion of the 2023 NBA Draft, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Voted the NCAA Tournament’s most outstanding player after winning a championship with the UConn Huskies, Adama Sanogo proved to be one of the best big men in college basketball. While he stands just six-foot-seven at the center position, he can hold his own in the paint thanks to his 260 lbs. Sanogo also pairs his stout frame with some remarkably unique offensive talent. He has high-quality touch around the rim and consistently finds ways to create space and get his shot off down low with expert footwork.
Also, in large part thanks to his shorter stature, he can really sneak up on you running the floor and putting it on the ground to attack a closeout. While his jump shot is still developing, he has shown signs of being able to expand his range a bit as he begins his NBA journey.
There are undoubtedly concerns about his ability to help protect the rim. He does have the benefit of being an extremely strong presence, but that isn’t going to help him necessarily overcome his height deficiencies or lack of raw explosiveness. Still, I think this is a pretty great flyer for the Bulls to take. He’s an extremely unique player who might just have what it takes to carve out a legitimately helpful rotational role down the road.
Again, there just aren’t many players like Sanogo, and I’m excited to see how his skillset can translate.
We’ll talk more about him soon. For now, here are some highlights from his AWESOME tournament:
