A highlight reel of Ayo Dosunmu’s first three years in the NBA could be made entirely of clips from his matchups with the Atlanta Hawks. Something about playing against Trae Young and Co. brings out the best in the 24-year-old guard. And Monday night was no exception.
Dosunmu scored a career-high 29 points on 12-18 shooting to help the Chicago Bulls pull off a 136-126 victory. He also went 5-7 from downtown to vault his 3-point shooting percentage to over 40.0 percent this season, which is another career-high.
From start to finish Dosunmu made his presence felt in Atlanta. But it was his effort at the end of the second quarter that really pushed the team in the right direction. Dosunmu scored 10 of the Bulls’ final 17 points before heading into the locker room, helping vault the team from down 55-43 to up 60-59. Without his extra effort to ramp up the tempo and put more pressure on the Hawks’ D, it’s hard to imagine the Bulls would have ever found the winning recipe.
I know most are going to give Dosunmu props for his more consistent 3-ball, but I love what I’m seeing from him as a half-court attacker. We’ve been waiting for him to show progress driving off the dribble, and he did that several times tonight to set up high-percentage looks at the rim. He blew by multiple Hawks defenders, which included going right past Bogdan Bogdanovic to dunk on Bruno Fernando.
Anyway, you can watch his best moments from tonight here:
Oh, and be sure to watch Dosunmu’s teammates prevent him from giving an interview …
