Angel Reese just made all of us look lazy.
The Chicago Sky’s first-round draft pick reported for practice on Monday with a game plan. After spending some time with the team, she got the green light to run to the airport. Reese was then seen walking the red carpet at the Met Gala in New York City only a handful of hours later.
After becoming the first WNBA rookie to ever attend the prestigious charity event, Reese returned to Chicago ready to lace up. All signs point toward Reese participating in her first-ever game at Wintrust Arena later this evening! The team’s second preseason battle will come against a star-studded New York Liberty team.
To go from WNBA practice to one of the biggest fashion events in the world to your first-ever WNBA home game is quite the astonishing 24 hours. Oh, and it also happened to be Reese’s birthday!
“Obviously, I came to practice because that’s my priority here and what has gotten me to where I am today …
I came to practice, I had my schedule and everything in the morning, and then just being able to do both things,” Reese told reporters (h/t Annie Costabile of the Sun-Times). “I’ve always loved fashion, and I’ve always loved modeling. So being able to spend my 22nd birthday playing the game I love but then also sitting in the fashion world with so many amazing people is something that I’ve always dreamed of.”
While Reese still has a lot to prove at the WNBA level, there is no denying her stardom is already very real. In many ways, this is why she felt like such a perfect pick for a rebuilding Sky team. The franchise has been in need of a new face, and few players have entered the league with Reese’s combination of ambition and charisma.
All eyes will now be on how Angel Reese looks in her second pro appearance. She struggled from the field with a 3-10 shooting display against the Minnesota Lynx, but she still managed to score 13 points with 9 rebounds. The door will remain wide open for her to have a big impact, especially with the news that fellow rookies Kamilla Cardoso and Brynna Maxwell are out for multiple weeks.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear the Sky’s game will be broadcast locally this evening, which feels like a massive missed opportunity. You will be able to watch it live for free on the WNBA App, however, which is at least an upgrade from the first preseason game (I still can’t believe it wasn’t streamed at all).
