Draft Lottery Rep, Is Anyone Untouchable? Next Star to be Traded? And Other Bulls Bullets

Coby White of the Chicago Bulls

Rumor has it that if you put a ping pong ball under your pillow, the Chicago Bulls will win the lottery on Sunday.

Might as well try!

  • The team announced on Friday morning that second-year forward Julian Pillips will represent the team at the 2024 Draft Lottery. I don’t know about you, but I always find it pretty odd to put a young, unestablished player in this position. This feels like the kind of seat a front-office executive or team legend should sit in – or at least a superstar-caliber player. After all, it’s more likely than not that the Bulls draft a player who takes minutes away from Phillips.
  • Also, what about a mom!? The Bulls could have gotten on the lottery god’s good side by making this a little Mother’s Day celebration!
  • Should anyone really be untouchable on this roster? Bleacher Report tried to pick the most untradeable player on each team, and they (rightfully) chose Coby White for the Chicago Bulls. Nobody showed more promise than the 24-year-old guard this past season, and he undoubtedly looks like the kind of winning contributor the Bulls desperately need. At the same time, how untouchable should White really be? Is he fire-breathing-dragon untouchable or more like a porcupine untouchable? It sure feels closer to the latter.
  • To be absolutely clear, I’m not trying to make a case for trading White. He is one of the very few bright spots on this team, and he also happens to be on a superb contract! But does that mean the Bulls should hang up on the phone if anyone calls? As far as I’m concerned, this team isn’t in a position to dodge trade talks. White is the kind of young piece who could be a very intriguing trade chip in a deal for a true star player. While that deal presumably isn’t presenting itself this offseason, it might be something we have to keep in mind down the road.
  • Ayo Dosunmu is in a somewhat similar position. I assume most of us can agree that his ceiling doesn’t rest as high as White’s, but I believe he would have some real value if the Bulls were to investigate. Again, none of this is to say I think the Bulls should trade either of them. I don’t. However, it’s reassuring to know they now do have a couple of positive trade assets, especially considering the diminishing value of Zach LaVine and the lack of draft pick flexibility.

  • Speaking of stars who could be on the trade block, the Pelicans feel destined to move on from Brandon Ingram. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto noted that rival execs believe he’s the most likely player to be dealt in New Orleans. On the one hand, it’s still hard not to like what Ingram has to offer at 26 years old. He’s a pretty efficient shotmaker with superb length, decent playmaking ability, and a nice ability to get to the free-throw line. While Ingram may not be a true No. 1, it’s not particularly hard to see a world where he can still be a vital No. 2 in the right environment.
  • To be clear, I don’t mention this because I can see a world where the Bulls land Ingram. While I could maybe envision New Orleans having some interest in Coby White, an opposing team can likely trump any Bulls offer (I’m also not confident you move White for Ingram, who has also had his fair share of injury trouble). But the movement of a big name making pretty big money can always impact the market! Maybe Zach LaVine becomes that much more intriguing after Ingram is gone. Maybe a blockbuster form that can also include LaVine’s salary. You never know!
  • This was wild …
  • The WNBA expansion continues. After recently announcing a new team in the Bay Area, the league has shared that Toronto will join the mix in May of 2026!
  • DeMar DeRozan is an author now!
  • The Blackhawks will pick No. 2 in this year’s draft. Consider me jealous!
