Oh how sweet it is! We’re down to the Sweet 16 updated bracket in March Madness, and for only the fifth time since expanding to a 64-team field, all the number 1 and 2 seeds have made it to the second weekend. There are some awesome games on tap, so let’s take a look at the updated Sweet 16 bracket and discuss some possible upsets.

Sweet 16 Schedule: How to watch
The March Madness Sweet 16 schedule is broadcast on CBS, TBS, and truTV. Thursday will feature the East and West Regions with the first game of the evening tipping shortly after 7 PM ET. On Friday the South and Midwest Regions take center stage with the first game also tipping shortly after 7 PM ET.

Sweet 16 Upset Picks
At this stage of March Madness, it really is anyone’s game, and “upsets” are more about the seeds than the actual teams themselves. This is clearly reflected in the current point spreads for each of the Sweet 16 contests. Only the (1) UConn vs. (5) San Diego State game has a spread larger than 7.5 points.
Thursday
According to Seed, we could be in for a mass of Sweet 16 upsets. The first is (3) Illinois possibly taking down (2) Iowa State. The Cyclones can go through long offensive lulls, and against a hot Illini, this could spell disaster for the higher seed. Sportsbooks currently list Iowa State as a 1.5 to 2-point favorite making this the closest matchup in the Sweet 16.
Friday
The next possible upset I can see would be (4) Duke playing to their potential and taking down (1) Houston. The Cougars gutted out an overtime win against the Texas A&M Aggies while the Blue Devils handily defeated the darling JMU Dukes. If Duke plays up to their preseason expectations, they can beat just about anyone, including Houston.
Lastly, the Midwest Region could see its top 2 seeds lose in one night. Everyone loves to pick against Purdue and they’re playing a surging Gonzaga team that most people wrote off prior to the tournament. While Tennessee was lucky to get past a middling Texas team, and now faces one of the most efficient and turnover-averse offenses in Creighton. Some think the Bluejays should be favored in that game.
