Troy (-6.5) vs Duke
Troy is favored in the Birmingham Bowl matchup with Duke. The Sun Belt champions are led by quarterback Gunnar Watson. He threw 27 touchdown passes and for over 3,300 yards this season. Duke is expected to give Henry Belin the start at QB and he has thrown just three touchdowns on the year.
Arkansas State (-3) vs Northern Illinois
The Camellia Bowl features Arkansas State and NIU as two 6-6 teams battle it out for an over .500 season. The matchup at QB features Rocky Lombardi for Northern Illinois and Jaylen Raynor for Arkansas State. Lombardi had 16 total touchdowns (10 passing) while Raynor had 20 total touchdowns (15 passing)
James Madison (-1.5) vs Air Force
In the Armed Forces Bowl, we have a great story in the 11-1 James Madison Dukes. They were not eligible for bowl games this season due to just being in their second FBS year but a lack of teams got the Dukes into bowl season.
Stud quarterback Jordan McCloud (32 TD passes) has transferred. That means it’s up to Alonza Barnett III to take the lead under center for James Madison. On the other side, Air Force loves to run the football. The Falcons had six rushers with at least 200 yards and were led by Emmanuel Michael (747 yards, 9 TD)
Georgia State vs Utah State (-2.5)
One of the most recognizable bowl names is the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The 2023 version pits Georgia State vs Utah State as two 6-6 teams battle for a seven-win season. Utah State has playmakers all around with top wide receivers in Jalen Royals and Terrell Vaughn. Royals (68 rec, 1023 yards, 14 TD) was a big play threat all year long while Vaughn added 10 TD receptions.
Georgia State is looking to stop a five-game losing streak after starting 6-1 on the year. Darren Grainger had 25 total touchdowns including 17 passing TDs during the 2023 season.
South Alabama (-17) vs Eastern Michigan
We see South Alabama as a heavy favorite in the 68 Ventures Bowl thanks to Eastern Michigan’s quarterback, Austin Smith hitting the transfer portal. Carter Bradley is questionable with an injury for South Alabama. He had a solid season throwing 19 touchdown passes.
Eastern Michigan will play Ike Udengwu at QB as well as Cam’Ron McCoy as the 6-6 Eagles hope to finish the season on a high note.
Utah (-6.5) vs Northwestern
The Las Vegas Bowl features two teams on opposite paths. Northwestern (7-5) won three games in a row to end the season. Utah stumbled down the stretch to an 8-4 record after a 6-1 start to the season.
Utah will start QB Luke Bottari after hearing Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson are moving on in the transfer portal. Cam Rising, who missed the entire season with an injury, plans to be back next year. For now, Bottari gets his chance to shine vs Northwestern.
Coastal Carolina vs San Jose State (-10)
The EasyPost Hawaii Bowl rounds out the night and San Jose State is a heavy favorite vs Coastal Carolina. San Jose State has won six games in a row led by quarterback Chevan Cordeiro. He threw for 2,549 yards with 19 touchdowns this year and added three scores on the ground.
Kairee Robinson was a stud in the backfield for San Jose State with over 1,100 yards and an impressive 18 rushing touchdowns. Coastal Carolina will start Ethan Vasko at QB. He threw for four touchdowns and added two on the ground in seven games this season.
