About 10 days ago, I took note of the extreme lack of interest in pitcher Ben Sheets this offseason. Considering that fact and the Texas Rangers backing off their pursuit suddenly, I speculated that Ben Sheets must be damaged goods.
CBSSports.com is reporting that I was right. Well, I mean, I guess they don’t use those exact words. They say it much more generically – Ben Sheets having surgery, torn flexor tendon, out four to six months, blah, blah, blah.
Talks between the Rangers and Sheets reached an impasse within the past several days, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. The two sides were close to agreement on a two-year deal, according to a major-league source, but they already had concerns regarding the right-handers’ checkered health history. It is believed that the physical examination revealed the tear and caused the Rangers to scotch the deal.
So as I said before, looks like Sheets not accepting arbitration was the best thing that happened to the Brewers this offseason. I am the greatest. Kneel before Zod!!!*
*The hubris is in jest, folks.
