I never thought that timetable was realistic, but at least now the team is confirming it.

The Cubs aren’t likely to have their new owner in place by Opening Day, but look to the next quarterly owners meeting in May as a good possibility, Cubs chairman Crane Kenney said.

And expect Tom Ricketts and his family to hit the ground running once the sale from Sam Zell and Tribune Co. is final, said Kenney, who is in regular contact with Ricketts to update him on team business.

“The Ricketts family and the Tribune are very close to the terms of their deal, which is the first domino that needs to fall,’’ Kenney said during his annual spring roundtable with Chicago beat writers. CHICAGO SUN-TIMES.

The functional difference between completing the deal by the first week of April versus mid-May is basically nil.
