Now THIS is a rumor.
On ESPN1000 this morning, Bruce Levine said the Chicago Cubs are one
of three teams going hard after Tampa Bay pitcher, Matt Garza. Garza,
27, is under control through 2013, but is about to start making good
money via arbitration, and the Rays are looking to save some cash, and
move Garza for prospects. He was 15-10 with a 3.91 ERA in 204.2
innings last year in the hefty AL East. And that was, statistically,
his worst year in Tampa. In 2008 and 2009, he had similarly solid, if
not spectacular, numbers.
No word yet on whom the Cubs would consider giving up, but you’d have
to believe the prospects would be names you’ve heard of – with only
guys like Brett Jackson, Chris Archer, Hak-Ju Lee and Trey McNutt off
the table.
