Cubs Sign Lefty Reliever Polin Trinidad

Chicago Cubs

Earlier this week, the Chicago Cubs signed 26-year-old lefty Polin Trinidad to a minor league deal. Formerly of the Astros organization, Trinidad doesn’t blow hitters away, but he uses multiple arm angles for a bit of added deception. He’s got solid minor league numbers overall – 3.81 ERA and 1.240 WHIP in 779 innings, with a 3.4 K/BB ratio, to boot – but has struggled in recent years at the higher levels of the minors. The thought is he might have more success if converted to a reliever.

No word yet on whether he’s receiving a Spring Training invite, but given his age the fullness of his minor league experience, it wouldn’t be surprising.
