According to multiple eye witness accounts, Chicago Cubs prospect Anthony Rizzo was just pulled in the third inning of today’s Iowa Cubs game, under circumstances that made it pretty clear it was an amicable pull.
In other words, he’s on his way to Chicago.
The Cubs start a three game set with the Mets tonight at Wrigley Field, and it would be surprising if he started for the Cubs on the same day that he’d started a game at Iowa, but it’s conceivable he could be brought up and put on the bench tonight. It’s far more likely, though, that the official move will come tomorrow, and Rizzo will be starting at first base for the Cubs against Dillon Gee tomorrow night.
When the move is official, I’ll have more thoughts, including strong words of caution about the hype train.
UPDATE: Paul Sullivan says a source confirmed that Rizzo’s debut will indeed come tomorrow night. To which I say …. YES!!! I’ll be in the right field bleachers, waiting to catch Rizzo’s first homer as a Cub.
