Haven’t seen the Cubs lose one like that in a while.
Staked to a four-run lead and a solid starting pitching performance, the Cubs’ pen faltered, with each guy who entered giving up an earned run. Since they’ve been so good this year, I can give them a pass, even as it was pretty unbelievable.
The Cubs flashed some nice power and offense in this one – Mike Olt, Anthony Rizzo, and Chris Coghlan all homered again – and Tsuyoshi Wada had a successful debut. The results were probably a touch better than the performance, but I’ll get to that in a bit.
In the end, it was a let down. Overall, it was a 5-0 lead that the Cubs blew.
