That’s a sweep, folks.
Jake Arrieta’s ERA climbed almost 20 points today because he gave up three earned runs in just shy of seven innings. He’s been that good.
And, in fact, he was damn good again today. He seemed to lose his release point at times (he buried a lot of pitches), but he struck out eight and generally looked Arrieta-ish. One of the runs scored after he’d departed.
Offensively, Chris Coghlan keeps hitting, and Anthony Rizzo hit a moooooonster bomb. That was it.
One of the runs the Diamondbacks got came on a weird, bad luck play: Rizzo caught a ball while falling into the dugout (it was awesome), which gave the baserunners advancement of one base. There was a runner at third, so he scored.
Nate Schierholtz is really, really struggling.
