A Range of Homers Last Night: A Manny Shot, a Russell Slam, and a Rizzo Bomb (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

The biggest homer for the Cubs last night came at Wrigley Field, because it was the difference in the rain-shortened game.

Absolutely crushed. We all know that Rizzo has a ton of homers – that was his 29th – but in an organization with so much power, I think sometimes we undersell Rizzo’s raw power. In the right situation and at the right pitch, Rizzo swings hard and has the power to hit it as far as anyone.

Damn it. Now I’m bummed again that he was excluded from the Home Run Derby.

Manny Ramirez hit one for the Iowa Cubs, and it was a shot to left:

Unfortunately, it might be too little too late for Ramirez’s prospect status: the homer lifted his season OPS to a modest .630.

Addison Russell homered for the second day in a row, and it was in grand fashion:

The obviously notable thing there is the opposite field power Russell shows. It wasn’t a monster bomb the other way, but it got out in a hurry. It still seems like most of Russell’s power is pull-side, but that’s not an issue if he can still go the other way with authority, and he can.

Kyle Schwarber also homered yesterday for the Daytona Cubs, but I have no video. I think it was an inside-the-park bunt home run, but I’ll have to double-check on that.
