Because you are all amazing, generous, and partly-selfish people, you donated well over $12,000 to Make-A-Wish to ensure that I have to blog for 38 hours straight – no sleep, no breaks, just coverage – at the Trade Deadline next week.
That $12,000 level was significant, because it sponsored two full wishes for children and their families – experiences they couldn’t otherwise have, and experiences they deserve. I’m so proud to be involved with Make-A-Wish, and I’m so grateful that we could do this together.
But I’m greedy. I want us to do more. And I’ll offer you more in return.
I recently solicited input from you all about what I could offer to do during the #BNBlogathon in order to get those donations up to $18,000, or enough to sponsor THREE wishes.
Well, taking a nod from the Cubs and from your suggestions …
By far the most common suggestion for what I should do during #BNBlogathon? Wear a rally bucket hat. Details soon. pic.twitter.com/sMCgf3KE9q

Here are those details.
If we reach $18,000 in donations before next Thursday, July 30, I will join in the Chicago Cubs’ spirit this year, and rally through the entire 38-hour experience wearing a bubble gum bucket rally hat. Cubs players have done it for a few minutes here and there throughout the season – seems like the least I could do is wear it for 38 STRAIGHT HOURS (for a great cause).
Having worn a regular (insane-looking, but regular) hat for the duration of last year’s 37-hour Blogathon, I can tell you that this is not a weak offer on my part. It was actually quite awful to wear that hat for 37 hours, and I’m pretty sure a bucket is going to be much, much worse.
If you want to see this happen, all while I provide you hours and hours of consecutive coverage at the most fun and exciting time of the year, then it’s up to you to chip in for a great cause.
Here’s how you donate:
Go to the BN Blogathon fundraiser page, and make your donation there by clicking on the “Donate to This Fundraiser” button.
Make-A-Wish is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, so, to the extent you were wondering, financial contributions may be deductible for federal income tax purposes. Just throwing that out there.
Thank you for your attention, your support, and for telling your friends and family about this fundraiser. And, of course, make sure you tune in when the #BNBlogathon actually rolls around, because we’ll be doing a lot of fun things throughout the 38 hours. Someone suggested a late night karaoke contest via Google Hangout between me, Luke, Luis, and Michael. I know I’m in …
