Congratulations to Chicago Cubs prospect Gleyber Torres, who’s been recognized as the top prospect in the Midwest League:

The 18-year-old shortstop is currently hitting .294/.357/.387 (118 wRC+) for full-season South Bend, which is made all the more impressive if you bold and italicize the words “18-year-old,” “shortstop,” and “full-season.”
The grind of his first long season seems to be wearing Torres down a bit, as he’s hit just .196/.248/.272 over the past month, and has seen his strikeout rate pop up to 24.8% during that month.
That’s all to be expected, and has done nothing to dim the star of a young man who might be the Cubs’ top prospect, and is a top 25-50 prospect in all of baseball. He’ll soon end his year at Low-A before getting a well-earned break in the offseason. From there, he’ll come to Spring Training and probably head to High-A Myrtle Beach to kick off the 2016 season.
