What a strange feeling today has brought. In the recent past, the end of the regular season has been accompanied by mixed feelings of relief and excitement to head into the offseason. Today, and I suspect whenever everything’s over, is nothing like that. I’m anxious about Wednesday, but I also have quite a bit of melancholy about the regular season being over. This was an extremely special, rare year, and they don’t always feature so many exciting moments, big wins, deep competitiveness, and sheer joy. I think if the season had been 300 games, this team would have kept doing what they did – and, quite simply, would have kept entertaining us.
As it stands, the Cubs very well might head into the 2016 regular season with a better team on paper than the one they have today, but that’s far from a guarantee that it’ll be a great season, let alone an exciting one featuring 95+ wins. But nothing can change the 2015 regular season now, and I already can’t wait to put together a look-back post on all of the fun moments.
That won’t come until it’s all over, though, and hopefully there are still several more highlights to add …
Whatever helps keep your hope alive, just know, it doesn't matter. @Cubs https://t.co/bJDN1wP0tS

See Happ as corner OF & may have to battle some combo of Bryant, Schwarber, Soler, McKinney for playing time. @Cubs https://t.co/HCMvBxTVbN

So, the Cubs could have won 12 fewer games and still been the second Wild Card. Can they roll those over to next season?
