The Day After an Amazing Win and Other Bullets

Chicago Cubs

wrigley marquee featureWas it as good for you as it was for me?

The joy I experienced last night as the Cubs beat the Pirates in the Wild Card Game bears a direct relationship to the misery I am feeling this morning. That is to say: I had a lot of fun last night, and a big thanks to everyone who came out to Mullen’s to watch the game. However you took in the game, I hope you had a blast, too.

Typing those few sentences took me a half an hour. I will, of course, have lots more on the game, on what’s next, and on the state of my physical recovery soon. For now, some short Bullets to tide us all over:

  • More on Jake Arrieta’s 11 strikeout shutout here. Balloting was due before the playoffs, but, man, after seeing him do that last night, it’s going to be hard to accept if he doesn’t win the Cy Young. Also: how awesome was his stolen base after being plunked? He might as well have run to second with both middle fingers extended, because it was a beautiful troll job.
  • A good writeup on the game and the atmosphere from Jayson Stark.
  • I still feel a little bad for the Pirates. They were a great team all year, and, by the end of the season, they were probably right there with the Cubs as the best teams (in terms of how they were constructed and playing) in baseball. It sucks that they now go home after one measly game in which they got shut down by a pitcher who could shut down any team right now.
  • Jake bein’ Jake:

  • The best Sean Rodriguez fight thing you will see:

  • Last night:
