2015 marked the first year in the Cubs’ organization for the South Bend franchise, and it’s the first time it has won the John H. Johnson President’s Award.
The honor goes to “the complete baseball franchise. The award’s criteria are based on financial stability, contributions to league stability, contributions to baseball in the community and promotion of the baseball industry.”
Truly, the South Bend Cubs were a joy to follow this year, and they – like the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Eugene Emeralds – incorporated themselves so well into the Cubs culture. I’d say that the organization lucked out by affiliated with such fantastic new minor league teams, but we know that wasn’t luck.
