At long last, the ongoing, comprehensive review of Pete Rose’s ban from baseball has been concluded by the Commissioner’s office, and Rob Manfred today announced that Rose, who has been banned since 1989, is still banned.

As you can see, not only did Manfred accept the recently-released notebook of evidence against Rose, but his review accepted the original Dowd Report as credible. Furthermore, his own interviews with Rose revealed that Rose is still betting on baseball, which, even if he’s doing it legally, is just not a good look for a guy who was banned from the game because of those proclivities.
Interestingly, Manfred carved out the conversation about the Hall of Fame, essentially saying that it wasn’t up to him or MLB to decide whether Rose is eligible for the Hall of Fame.
