One year ago today, one of the most excellent moments of Spring Training – even the whole year, which was so freaking moment-filled – occurred as Jorge Soler, Javier Baez, and Kris Bryant went back-to-back-to-back. We all rightly lost our minds.
I mention it not only because today is the anniversary of that excellent moment, but also because Jorge Soler went deep today, and so did Javier Baez:
When Javy Baez really blisters one, it is a uniquely incredible experience. Only his homers look like that, with the bat whipping through the zone like a streak of lightning, and an immediate acknowledgement by the crowd that the ball is not coming back.
[adinserter block=”2″]It wasn’t even a terribly deep home run, but I’m convinced that even if it had been a few feet lower, it simply would have blasted through the wall. There was no stopping that ball.
For his part, Kris Bryant did not homer today, which would have completed a really improbable trifecta. It’s fun to think about how far each of those three players have come since this point last year (especially Bryant), and wonder about where they might be one year from today, almost certainly going back-to-back-to-back again.
In the meantime, I’m going to watch the Baez homer again. Hey, here it is on a loop:
