Chicago Cubs

It’s really rare to see the Cubs put up six runs this year and lose the game. That’s because they almost never give up this many runs, of course. In fact, coming into today’s game, they’d given up nine or more runs once all year (an early-season game against the Reds, if you happened to forget, in which they somehow gave up 13).

And, hey, even after giving up nine runs, it’s not like the Cubs totally quit in this one or never had a shot. Once again, they had a ton of baserunners, but simply didn’t get the big hits when they need them. They even got the tying run to the plate in the 9th, though it was not to be.

John Lackey did not have his best outing, to say the least, and we’ll have to discuss that more later.

It’s probably the last thing you’ll want to see at this moment when the Cubs have lost five of six, but I actually saw some nice things today. Maybe I’m just feeling positive because it was nice out, I spent a lot of time with my kids and friends, and I’ve got a delicious cookie waiting for me when I finish this up.
