Pre-Gamin’: Brewers at Cubs (12:20 CT) – Lineup, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

wrigley right field bleachersThe Cubs and Brewers kick off a four-game set with a doubleheader at Wrigley Field today.

And game one will be started by Trevor Cahill – his first Major League start since April 2015 with the Atlanta Braves.

We discussed his recent starts at Triple-A in the Series Preview this morning, but suffice it to say those starts were mostly about stretching Cahill out and getting him prepared to go multiple innings on a day like today. If he can provide the Cubs with at least 4 relatively clean innings, before turning it over to the bullpen, his start will have been a success. Then, saving the bullpen will be up to Jason Hammel this evening.

Matt Garza starts for the Brewers in game one, coming into today with some strong lefty (.372 wOBA)/righty (.322 wOBA) splits. Because of that (and the fact that it’s one half of a doubleheader), Chris Coghlan grabs the start in left field and Miguel Montero starts behind the plate. In fact, Garza will have to face six lefties today, with just Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, and the pitcher hitting from the right side. Hopefully, they can do some damage.

First pitch is at 12:20 CT.
