With a rain delay that pushed the start to 11pm my time, and then an extra-innings affair, I couldn’t last for that one. My apologies. Given the way it ended, I can’t say I’m too mad at myself for the decision to cash out.
The Cubs had built a 5-1 lead by the 7th inning, thanks primarily to homers from Dexter Fowler and Addison Russell, and another wonderful pitching performance from Kyle Hendricks.[adinserter block=”1″]
… and then the Rockies scored four unanswered against Travis Wood and Carl Edwards Jr. in the 7th and 8th. Felix Pena debuted with a scoreless 9th, and Rob Zastryzny pitched a scoreless 10th (despite loading the bases), but Aroldis Chapman couldn’t close the game out after the Cubs managed to take the lead in the 11th. Chapman gave up a single and then a double to the gap, which tied the game – unfortunately, Javy Baez’s relay throw went into the Cubs’ dugout, and the runner who’d doubled was awarded home. Game over. Cubs lose.
